Wasani International Artists Workshops

The Wasani International Artists Workshops were held in Lamu in 2004 and 2006. Organized by Kuona Trust, a not-for-profit organization set up to research, support, innovate and promote contemporary visual art in Kenya and East Africa. The Trust does this by nurturing local talent through international exchange, workshops, residency programmes, exhibitions and innovative outreach projects. Kuona's mission is to generate greater public appreciation of visual arts by advancing skills and opportunities for artists and strengthening local audiences.

In 2006 Kuona Trust Wasanii International Artists Workshop was held in August in the island of Lamu along the Kenyan coast. The workshop had 26 participants who included South African artist Diana hyslop, Irish artist Niahm mc cann, Australian Maria Buchner, Fiel dos Santos Marques from Mozambique, Rohini Devasher from India, Stephen ngaranganga from Zimbabwe, Chika Modum from Nigeria and of course local artists including Mary Ogembo, Ogonga Thom, Silver John, King Dodge, Maryanne Muthoni, James Mbuthia, Peterson Kamwathi, Samuel Githui, Fred Ajode, Joseph Koi, Adam Musa, Mahadi Madi, Kim Cornelius and Charles Ngatia.
Open day was held on the 9th of september at the Lamu fort where an estimated 600 local and international visitors came to see the works done during the two weeks
