KENYAN ART SAFARI: LAMU WORKSHOP
2007
Spend one or two weeks in Lamu Wildebeeste studio working with professional artists Yony Waite and Gwendolyn Meyer, who will facilitate various mediums including: intalio, (etching and engraving), block printing, (wood and lino), mono printing, stencil, silkscreen and phototransfer, hand book binding and paper making!
This is an opportunity to work on your own projects or learn
a new medium in unique surroundings.Wether an experienced artits or not, this workshop will inspire you to discover and explore your own creativity.
Wildebeeste studio is equipped with an etching press and basic materials. Artists should bring additional art supplies, or can purchase them there. Contact Wildebeeste for more details.
Location:Located in the heart of the historic ancient slave port town of Lamu, where many cultures come together in harmony 45 minute walk or take a 10 minute dhow to beautiful beaches. Weather is warm in february.
Cost:
Shared accomodation : $550.00 per week. Meals are not included. Swahili cooks and several kitchens are available for your use. There are many good restaurants within walking distance of the Wildebeeste Workshop studio.
Airfare:
Not included. Cost to Nairobi is aproximately US$1600.00 from the U.S. west coast . Many international airlines fly to Nairobi, including Brtish, Kenyan and KLM. From there a short plane trip or train and bus will take you to the island of Lamu. You will be met at the Lamu airport
Dates:
Monday 12th February to Sunday 18th February, with the option to extend to Sunday 25th February, 2007.
Arrive by sunday 11th February in Lamu for a welcome dinner. Workshop starts Monday 12th February. Safaris to upcountry game parks can also be arranged.
